Slice 10596 Safety Seam Ripper - Ambidextrous, Replaceable Blade

The Slice 10596 Manual Seam Ripper offers a choice of three pre-set blade positions: fully retracted, partially extended, and fully extended. Constructed of durable reinforced nylon, the lightweight handle is designed for comfortable, easy use and features a lanyard hole to keep your 10596 close by while you're working. No extra tools are needed to change the blade.

The installed finger-friendly blade is safe to the touch and easy to clean so it won't stain thread or fabric. Its replaceable blade is chemically inert, never rusts, and lasts up to 11 times longer than a comparable steel blade.

Why Ceramic Blades? Hardness & Sharpness. Ceramic blades are rated 8.2 on the Mohs hardness scale, second only to diamonds, while metal blades are rated 5.5. Harder edges maintain sharpness longer, cut better, and require replacement far less frequently. In fact, depending on use, you can go weeks or months without having to replace a single ceramic blade. They also last up to 10x longer!

A single Slice ceramic blade is equivalent up to 10 high-end double-sided metal blades or up to 20 high-end single sided metal blades. In terms of safety, less blade changes also mean less risk of injury.

The 10536 blade, in addition to its safer cutting edge, has a rounded tip to guard against accidental punctures. It glides smoothly between stitches and cuts without tugging at the surrounding fabric.

Slice 10536 and 10537 blades were designed for the 10596 (manual retraction) and 10597 (automatic retraction) seam ripper models, but they also fit in several craft handles, allowing you to choose the best combination for your needs. Our seam ripper blades are compatible with both our craft knife models (10548 and 10589), our replaceable-blade scalpel (10568), and the shorter Precision Knife, with its unique handle (10580).

The 10537 blade has a pointed tip to slip into very small stitches. It glides smoothly between stitches and cuts without tugging at the surrounding fabric.

You can't simply duplicate a metal blade in ceramic material and achieve what we have created with our current products. There's a tremendous amount of engineering required on not only the blades and handles individually, but there's also an incredible amount of engineering required on the combination of the handles and the blades working together in order to produce the desired balance of safer-usage and cutting capability.
